📖 Solah Somvar Vrat Katha (Story)

The Vrat Katha is mandatory. The most popular legend tells of a Priest who was cursed with leprosy due to his arrogance.

The Legend: One day, Lord Shiva and Parvati visited a temple in Amravati. Parvati asked a priest, “Who will win in a game of dice between us?” The priest lied and said “Shiva,” but Parvati won. Angered by his deceit, she cursed him to become a leper.

Years later, some fairies (Apsaras) visited the temple and saw the suffering priest. They advised him to observe the Solah Somvar Vrat. He followed the rituals for 16 Mondays with pure devotion. On the 17th Monday, Lord Shiva was pleased and cured his disease completely.

Moral: Even the most difficult curses and misfortunes can be overcome by observing this fast with truth and devotion.
