What is Jatakarma Sanskaar Puja?
Jatakarma Sanskaar (also spelled Jatakarma Sanskar) is the first of the 16 Hindu Sanskaars (Shodasha Samskaras)performed for a child after birth. This ritual signifies the soul's arrival into the earthly realm and is performed to purify, protect, and bless the newborn baby as they begin their life journey.

The term is derived from Sanskrit:
  • Jata – meaning birth
  • Karma – meaning ritual or rite

This sacred ritual marks the beginning of the child’s Dharmic journey and invokes divine blessings for a healthy, intelligent, and spiritual life.

Purpose of Jatakarma Sanskaar Puja
The Jatakarma ritual is performed to:
  • Welcome the soul into the physical world
  • Purify the newborn and remove negative energies
  • Invoke blessings from deities and ancestors
  • Promote intelligence, long life, and well-being
  • Establish a sacred connection between child and Dharma

Main Rituals of Jatakarma Sanskaar
Our knowledgeable Pandits perform all rituals as per the Vedas and your family tradition. Key rituals include:
Mantra Uccharan (Vedic Chanting) – Recitation of shlokas to bless the child
Whispering of Secret Name – A temporary or spiritual name is whispered in the baby’s ear
Blessing Ceremony – Family members bless the baby with health, strength, and prosperity
Griha Shuddhi (House Purification) – The environment is spiritually cleansed with incense, holy water, and mantras

When Should You Perform Jatakarma Sanskaar?
Traditionally, the Jatakarma Puja is performed:
  • Immediately after birth or
  • Within the first 10 to 12 days of the baby’s birth

In some communities, the Puja is combined with Naamkaran (Naming Ceremony) if done after a few weeks.
