Facing Obstacles in Life?
Significance of Vijaya Ekadashi
The ancient text Skanda Purana mentions that this Ekadashi is powerful enough to wipe away the sins of many lifetimes.
- It ensures Victory (Jaya) in all endeavors.
- It helps win over enemies and legal disputes.
- It grants mental strength to overcome grief and anxiety.
Vijaya Ekadashi Vrat Katha (The Legend of Lord Rama)
The most popular legend is from the Ramayana. When Lord Rama reached the shore of the ocean with his Vanara Sena (monkey army) to rescue Goddess Sita, he faced a massive obstacle: the vast, uncrossable ocean. He asked his brother Lakshmana for a solution.
Lakshmana advised him to visit the nearby ashram of the great sage Bakadalbhya Muni. The sage advised Lord Rama to observe the Vijaya Ekadashi Vrat with full devotion.
Following the sage’s advice, Lord Rama, Lakshmana, and the entire army observed the fast. Pleased by their penance, Lord Vishnu (and the Sea God) granted them passage. They successfully built the Ram Setu, crossed the ocean, and eventually defeated the demon king Ravana. Since then, this day is celebrated as the day of victory.
