Vat Savitri Puja Vidhi (Rituals)

  1. Preparation: Wake up early, take a holy bath, and wear new traditional clothes and jewelry (Solah Shringar). Observe a fast (Vrat).
  2. Tree Worship: Visit a nearby Banyan tree or place a branch in a pot at home. Offer water, turmeric, kumkum, and flowers to the tree.
  3. Tying the Thread: Tie a white or red sacred thread (Kalava/Sut) around the tree trunk while circumambulating (Parikrama) it 7 or 108 times. This symbolizes the bond of protection.
  4. Offerings: Offer soaked gram (chana), fruits (especially mangoes and jackfruit), sweets, and pooris.
  5. Katha & Aarti: Listen to the Satyavan-Savitri Katha recited by a priest or an elderly woman. Conclude with Aarti.
  6. Breaking Fast: After the puja, break the fast by consuming the soaked gram and water. Seek blessings from elders and your husband.
