Shravana Putrada Ekadashi 2026: Date, Parana Time, Vrat Katha & Significance
Shravana Putrada Ekadashi falls on the 11th day of the Shukla Paksha in the holy month of Shravana. As the name “Putrada” suggests (Putra = Son/Child, Da = Giver), this Ekadashi is the bestower of children. It is observed by couples wishing for a child and by parents seeking the long life and well-being of their children.
In 2026, this auspicious day falls on a Sunday, coinciding with the sacred Jhulan Yatra (Swing Festival) of Lord Krishna.

Significance of Shravana Putrada Ekadashi
This Ekadashi is also known as Pavitropana Ekadashi. In some regions, devotees offer cotton wicks (Pavitra) dipped in ghee or Panchamrit to Lord Vishnu, seeking forgiveness for sins.
It holds special importance because observing this Vrat washes away obstacles that prevent childbirth and ensures the lineage continues. It is said that even those who do not have a son can attain salvation (Moksha) by observing this fast.
Putrada Ekadashi Vrat Katha (Story of King Mahijit)
The legend dates back to the **Dvapara Yuga**. There was a noble king named Mahijit who ruled the kingdom of Mahishmati. Despite his wealth and power, he was deeply unhappy because he had no children.
Desperate for a solution, the King went into a dense forest and met the learned Sage Lomesh. The Sage meditated on the King’s past life and revealed the cause of his misery. In his previous birth, the King was a merchant who, on a hot Jyeshtha Ekadashi, had chased away a thirsty calf from a pond to drink water himself. This sin had resulted in his childlessness in this life.
Sage Lomesh advised the King and his Queen to observe the Shravana Shukla Ekadashi Vrat (Putrada Ekadashi) to wash away that sin. The couple fasted with complete devotion and stayed awake all night singing praises of Lord Vishnu.
As a result of their penance, the Queen conceived, and they were blessed with a beautiful and virtuous son who later became a great ruler.
