Parama Ekadashi 2026: Date, Parana Time & Vrat Katha
Parama Ekadashi is observed on the 11th day of the Krishna Paksha in the sacred Adhik Maas (Leap Month). The word “Parama” means “The Highest” or “Supreme.” Since Adhik Maas is dedicated to Lord Purushottam (Vishnu), this Ekadashi is considered one of the most powerful days to appease Him.
In 2026, Parama Ekadashi falls on a Thursday, which is extremely auspicious for Vishnu Puja. It is widely believed that this fast holds the power to eradicate poverty and misery from one’s life.

Significance of Parama Ekadashi
Lord Krishna narrated the importance of this Vrat to Arjuna in the Skanda Purana. He stated that the merit of this single fast is equal to performing the Ashwamedha Yajna. It specifically targets the removal of *Daridrata* (poverty) and *Paap* (sins) accumulated from previous births. Even Kubera (the God of Wealth) attained his position by observing this fast.
Parama Ekadashi Vrat Katha (Story of Sumedha)
In the city of Kampilya, there lived a pious Brahmin named Sumedha and his devoted wife Pavitra. Despite their piety, they were extremely poor. They often went without food, yet Pavitra never complained and served guests with whatever little they had.
One day, the great sage Kaundinya Rishi visited their humble home. Despite having nothing, the couple served the sage with great hospitality. Pleased by their devotion, the Sage asked them about their plight. Sumedha asked, *”O Sage, what is the remedy to end this extreme poverty?”*
Sage Kaundinya advised them to observe the Parama Ekadashi Vrat during the Adhik Maas. He explained, *”This fast pleases Lord Purushottam and grants abundance. Even Lord Shiva became the Lord of Kailash by observing this fast.”*
Following the sage’s advice, Sumedha and Pavitra observed the fast with strict discipline. That very night, a prince visited them and gifted them a house filled with wealth, gold, and grains. Their poverty vanished instantly, and they lived a prosperous life, eventually attaining Vaikuntha.
