Padmini Ekadashi 2026: Date, Parana Time & Adhik Maas…

Padmini Ekadashi 2026: Date, Parana Time & Vrat Katha (Adhik Maas Special)
Padmini Ekadashi (also known as Kamala Ekadashi) is a rare and highly sacred day that occurs during the Shukla Paksha of Adhik Maas (the extra leap month). Since Adhik Maas appears only once every 32 months (approx. 3 years), observing this Ekadashi is believed to grant merit equivalent to visiting all pilgrimage sites (Teertha Kshetras).
In 2026, the Adhik Maas corresponds to Adhik Jyeshtha, and Padmini Ekadashi falls on a Thursday, the favorite day of Lord Vishnu.
✨ A Once-in-3-Years Opportunity!
This month is also called Purushottam Maas, dedicated entirely to Lord Vishnu. Fasting on this day washes away past sins and blesses the devotee with health, wealth, and Moksha.

Padmini Ekadashi Vrat Katha (The Legend)
The legend appears in the Bhavishyottara Purana. In Treta Yuga, the mighty King Kritavirya of the Haihaya dynasty ruled Mahishmati. Despite having many queens, he had no son to inherit his kingdom. Desperate, the King and his chief queen, Padmini (daughter of King Harishchandra), handed the kingdom to ministers and went to the Gandhamadana Mountain for penance.
They performed severe austerities for 10,000 years, yet Lord Vishnu did not appear. Seeing her husband’s disappointment, Queen Padmini sought advice from the chaste wife of Sage Atri, Devi Anusuya.
Anusuya revealed the secret of the “Malmas” (Adhik Maas) and advised Padmini to observe the Ekadashi of the Shukla Paksha in Adhik Maas. Following her guidance, Queen Padmini observed the fast with complete devotion, staying awake all night in prayer.
The Divine Boon:
Pleased by her devotion, Lord Vishnu appeared riding Garuda. He asked Padmini for a boon. She requested a son who would be invincible to gods, demons, and humans—respected by all three worlds. Lord Vishnu granted the boon, saying, “Since you pleased me in my favorite month (Purushottam Maas), your son will be the mightiest of all.”
Thus, the legendary Kartavirya Arjuna (Sahasrarjuna) was born. He became so powerful that he was the only warrior on earth capable of defeating Ravana.
