Mohini Ekadashi 2026: Date, Parana Time, Vrat Katha & Significance
Mohini Ekadashi falls on the 11th day of the Shukla Paksha in the month of Vaishakha. It is dedicated to Mohini, the only female avatar of Lord Vishnu. The word “Mohini” means “The Enchantress.” Observing this Vrat is believed to liberate devotees from the trap of illusion (Maya) and worldly attachments (Moha).
In 2026, Mohini Ekadashi falls on a Monday. It is said that Lord Ram also observed this fast while searching for Goddess Sita to overcome his grief and obstacles.

Significance of Mohini Ekadashi
According to the Surya Purana, fasting on this day washes away sins accumulated over many lifetimes. It is specifically recommended for those who feel trapped in bad habits, emotional instability, or material delusions. It brings mental clarity and spiritual awakening.
Mohini Ekadashi Vrat Katha (Samudra Manthan)
The most famous legend associated with this day is the Samudra Manthan (Churning of the Ocean).
When the Devas and Asuras churned the cosmic ocean, a pot of Amrit (Nectar of Immortality) emerged. A fight broke out immediately, and the Asuras (demons) snatched the pot, refusing to share it with the Gods.
To save the universe from the tyranny of immortal demons, Lord Vishnu took the form of Mohini—a woman of mesmerizing beauty. The Asuras were so enchanted by her charm that they forgot their fight and handed the pot of Amrit to her, asking her to distribute it.
Mohini cleverly made the Devas and Asuras sit in separate rows. She served the Amrit to the Devas while keeping the Asuras distracted with her smile. By the time the Asuras realized the trick, the Devas had already become immortal. This event took place on the Vaishakha Shukla Ekadashi, which is now celebrated as Mohini Ekadashi.
