On the ninth and final day of Navratri (Mahanavami), devotees worship the supreme form of Goddess Durga, known as Maa Siddhidatri. She is the ninth manifestation of the Navadurga (Nine Forms of Durga).

Her name consists of two words: Siddhi (Supernatural Power) and Datri (Giver). She is the possessor of the 8 great Siddhis (Anima, Mahima, Garima, Laghima, Prapti, Prakamya, Ishitva, and Vashitva). Worshiping her grants the devotee perfection, success, and spiritual enlightenment.

The Mystery of Ardhanarishvara

According to the Devi Purana, in the beginning of the universe, Lord Shiva worshipped Adi-Parashakti for creation. The supreme Goddess appeared from the left half of Lord Shiva. Because of this, Lord Shiva came to be known as Ardhanarishvara (The Lord who is half-woman and half-man).

It was Goddess Siddhidatri who bestowed all the 18 types of Siddhis upon Lord Shiva. She is the source of all energy in the universe and is worshipped by Devas, Gandharvas, Asuras, Yakshas, and Siddhas alike.
