Griha Pravesh Puja Guide: Auspicious Dates, Vidhi & Rituals
“Om Ganesaya Namah Avahayami”
The first mantra chanted by the Pandit as the Griha Pravesh Puja commences marks the beginning of your divine experience. Griha Pravesh Puja (Housewarming Ceremony) is a Vedic ritual performed to purify a home’s environment and protect your abode from the evil eye.
In Vastu Shastra, it is believed that a home is a living being. Whether you are entering a newly constructed home (Apoorva), a resale property (Sapoorva), or a Rented House, performing this puja ensures peace, harmony, and the removal of negative energies (Drishti).
Upcoming Auspicious Dates (Shubh Muhurat)
According to Vedic Astrology, moving into a home during a Shubh Muhurat maximizes positive karma. The most auspicious Nakshatras for housewarming are Rohini, Mrigashirsha, Chitra, and Anuradha.

1. Before the Puja (Preparation)
- Clean the Home: Ensure the entire house is cleaned with salt water (to remove negativity).

2. During the Puja (Key Rituals)
- Gau Puja: If possible, a cow (Kamadhenu) is worshipped before entering.
- Dwar Puja & Kalash Pravesh: The owner enters with the right foot first, carrying a Kalash filled with water, mango leaves, and a coconut.
- Ganapati Puja: The first prayer to remove obstacles.
- Milk Boiling Ceremony: A new vessel is used to boil milk until it overflows, symbolizing the overflow of wealth and joy.
- Vastu Shanti & Havan: Fire rituals to appease the Vastu Purusha and cleanse the atmosphere.
3. After the Puja
- Sprinkle Holy Water: Use mango leaves to sprinkle water from the Kalash in every corner of the house.
