Who is Goddess Shailputri? (Mythology)<\/h2>\n

The name Shailputri<\/strong> is derived from two Sanskrit words: Shaila<\/em> (Mountain) and Putri<\/em> (Daughter). She is the daughter of Hemavan, the King of the Himalayas.<\/p>\n

In her previous birth, she was Sati<\/strong>, the daughter of King Daksha. After self-immolating in the sacrificial fire due to her father’s insult towards Lord Shiva, she was reborn as Parvati (Shailputri) in the house of the Mountain King. In this form, she performed severe penance to marry Lord Shiva again.<\/p>\n
