There was a noble king named Mahijit who ruled the kingdom of Mahishmati. The Sage meditated on the King’s past life and revealed the cause of his misery. In his previous birth, the King was a merchant who, on a hot Jyeshtha Ekadashi, had chased away a thirsty calf from a pond to drink water himself. This sin had resulted in his childlessness in this life.

Sage Lomesh advised the King and his Queen to observe the Shravana Shukla Ekadashi Vrat (Putrada Ekadashi) to wash away that sin.
