Utpanna Ekadashi<\/strong> (also known as Utpatti Ekadashi<\/em>) is one of the most significant days in the Hindu calendar. It marks the birth of Goddess Ekadashi<\/strong>\u2014a divine Shakti that emerged from Lord Vishnu to annihilate the demon Mura. Unlike other Ekadashis that celebrate a specific deity, this day celebrates the origin of the fast itself.<\/p>\n

For devotees who wish to begin the sacred practice of Ekadashi fasting, Utpanna Ekadashi<\/strong> is considered the most auspicious day to start. It falls on the 11th day (Ekadashi) of the Krishna Paksha in the month of Margashirsha.<\/p>\n

The Legend of Demon Mura (Vrat Katha)<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

The significance of this Ekadashi is rooted in the Bhavishya Purana<\/em>. In the Satyuga, a terrifying demon named Mura<\/strong> defeated the Devas and drove Indra out of Heaven. The Devas approached Lord Vishnu for protection. A fierce battle ensued between Vishnu and Mura, lasting for 10,000 years.<\/p>\n

Exhausted, Lord Vishnu retired to a cave named Hemavati<\/em> in Badrikashram to rest. While he was in Yoga Nidra<\/em> (divine sleep), Demon Mura tried to kill him. Suddenly, a radiant Goddess manifested from Vishnu\u2019s body. Armed with divine weapons, she fought Mura and killed him instantly with a roar.<\/p>\n

When Vishnu awoke, he was pleased with the Goddess. She introduced herself: “I am your Shakti, born from your body to protect you.”<\/em> Lord Vishnu named her Ekadashi<\/strong> (as she was born on the 11th lunar day) and granted her a boon that anyone who fasts on this day will be freed from sins and attain Moksha.<\/p>\n

Utpanna Ekadashi Puja Vidhi<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

Since this is often the first Ekadashi for many devotees, following the correct Vidhi is essential.<\/p>\n

1. Sankalp (Morning Vow)<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Wake up during Brahma Muhurta<\/em>. After a holy bath, stand before your home altar and take a vow (Sankalp) to observe the fast with purity and devotion.<\/p>\n
