In Vaastu Shastra it is a belief that the home itself is a living being, which negative forces can inhabit and take shelter inside during vacancy – even if the home is brand new. The Griha Pravesham Puja or Housewarming ceremony is about respectfully acknowledging these entities and purifying the space. It is about cleansing the home so that the family can have a new beginning, with peaceful and positive energy.
The Griha Pravesham Puja rituals are as follows. All Gods reside in the ‘Cow’ so it’s idol is decorated and worshiped with flowers, turmeric and kumkum. Our priest chants the mantra of Gou Puja and the family members offer fruits and touch it asking for its blessings.
Dwara Puja is done to the strip of wood or stone forming the bottom of a doorway (Threshold) as it guards the owner and at the same time it does not permit evil forces entering the house.
Ganapathi Homa – Here the lord of Obstacle is evoked to remove hindrances that prevent the path for entering the house. This Homa drives all evil forces residing in the house. Ganesha smoothens the path throughout the life.
Navagraha Homa – The word ‘Graha’ means planet. So our house has the influence of all 9 planets. We should please them and get their blessings in order to get good protection from all ill effects of planets and dangers caused by our Karma.
Vastu Homa – This Homa is performed to remove any negative vibrations in the home. It’s believed that a newly bought or constructed home may have the sin of millions of deaths of organisms over it during the process of construction. This Puja brings peace and good fortune to the residents of the new house. It purifies the house and installs a divine ambience in the new surroundings. This Puja drives away the doshams or ill-effects already existing in the house.
Satyanarayan Puja – The puja is for divine blessings of health, wealth, prosperity, opulence, education, relief from troubles and sickness. It can also be performed because of success in business or career growth. All said and done a man’s life does not shine without money and health.
